We are pleased to welcome Dr. Betsy Powell to 30A Vet!
Dr. Betsy Powell grew up on a farm in Kentucky, where her love of animals began at an early age. She pursued her passion for veterinary medicine at Western Kentucky University, where she earned her undergraduate degree and then completed her doctorate degree at Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2012.
With over a decade of experience, she specializes in surgery and exotic animal care, bringing a unique skill set to 30A Vet. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family which includes her two children and two stepchildren, ages 2-12. A lover of the beach, Dr. Powell feels right at home with the sand, sun and cool ocean breezes offered among our beautiful southern coast. When she’s not caring for animals, you can often find her out among the locals just enjoying our beautiful coastal vibes.
Dr. Karen Shane was born and raised on Long Island, NY. Three years after practicing as a C.P.A. in Manhattan, NY, Dr. Shane realized her true passion was veterinary medicine. She relocated from the “Big Apple” to the “Little Apple” to complete her DVM at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. Following graduation, she traveled to Los Angeles to complete an internship in internal medicine, cardiology, critical care and surgery at California Animal Hospital, under the direction of world renowned Steven Ettinger, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM Cardiology). Upon completion of her internship, Dr. Shane attended the Chi Institute in Reddick, FL and became a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist and Chinese Medicine practitioner.
In 2008, Dr. Shane and her husband, Christopher opened Shane Veterinary Medical Center, a fast paced, 24/7 multi-doctoral general medicine, surgery and emergency hospital in Marina del Rey, CA. In 2023, the Shane family relocated to their forever home on the beautiful Emerald Coast.
Dr. Shane retains special interests in internal medicine, nutrition, Chinese medicine and acupuncture with an intergrative, individualized approach toward each 4-legged she is blessed to care for. She enjoys spending time outdoors in or on the water with her husband, teens Sophia & Ryan, two golden retrievers, a sassy terrior and three cats.
Dr. Brawner was raised on a professional Quarter Horse farm in central Alabama, where she developed an interest in animals at a very early age. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Auburn University. She then attended veterinary school at St. Matthew’s University and completed her clinical year rotations at Oklahoma State University.
After practicing in general practice for a couple of years, she was excited for the unique opportunity to practice emergency medicine at a busy, multi-specialty referral center. She enjoyed the opportunity to follow complex and emergency cases with multiple specialists. Her professional interests include internal medicine, radiology, ultrasonography and critical care. Her passion to be part of a client-centered general practice that provides comprehensive care for the pets in the community has finally been realized with the purchase of 30A Vet.
Dr. Brawner is pictured above with her French Bulldog, “Eleanor,” the new mascot for 30A Vet! She also has a Great Dane named “Loretta” and a cat named “Kit Kat”.
“Not only did I literally grow up in this profession as my brother and father both were Veterinarians but twenty plus years of experience in both clinical and pharmaceutical areas of Veterinary Medicine has provided me with a unique perspective to develop alliances and to build relationships with potential internal and external customers. Upon graduation in 1994, I practiced in Tennessee, Kentucky, Oregon, Virginia, and Maryland before joining the Veterinary Operations team with Pfizer Animal Health. In 2014 I returned to private practice as an associate Veterinarian for Banfield Pet Hospital in Destin Florida and my recent clinical experience with the largest “Corporate Practice” in the US has renewed my interest in wellness plans and the importance of preventative medicine.
Additionally, my 13 years of Industry experience provided me with a multitude of diverse experiences with many cross functional teams such as New Products Marketing, Technical Writing, Learning and Development, Research and Development, Strength-Based Coaching, and Pharmacovigilance. In 2006, I was certified as a FRANK Communications Facilitator and I have conducted hundreds of Communication Workshops for Veterinary Health Professionals in the Mid-Atlantic.
For three years I oversaw the Pfizer Education Alliance Program which at the time was the only structured educational program in place for each of the respective Veterinary Schools across the country involving student representatives, as well as student and faculty awards. I have also served as the Pfizer Liaison for Auburn, Tuskegee, and Virginia Tech Colleges of Veterinary Medicine”.
